Maria Montessori (1870-1952) gilt für viele als die Reformpädagogin schlechthin. In der pädagogischen Szene wird sie als Heldin inszeniert und als solche verehrt. Montessori ist gegen jede Form von Kritik an Person und Werk immun - so jedenfalls scheint es. Was nicht in das Heldinnenprofil passt, wird verharmlost, verschwiegen oder tabuisiert. Bei einem Denken, das Menschen nach »Rassenmerkmalen« und »Rassentypen« differenziert, sie in »Anormale« und »Normale« unterscheidet und Erziehung in einen biopolitischen Dunstkreis stellt, ist eine fortwährende Unantastbarkeit Montessoris jedoch mehr als fragwürdig - sowohl pädagogisch als auch politisch. Die Kluft zwischen dem Mythos hier und den bildungshistorischen und -theoretischen Analysen dort scheint aktuell immer größer zu werden.
